Business Details
We have dedicated our professional career to understanding the unique psychological demands placed on law enforcement, firefighters, and emergency service personnel. Our practice is built on decades of specialized experience, including serving as an adjunct instructor at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and a former instructor for the Maine Department of Corrections. We recognize that civil service positions require counselors with equally specialized training, knowledge, and experience. Our clinical work focuses specifically on Posttraumatic Stress Injury, a term we use deliberately to reflect the treatable nature of this condition rather than a lifelong disorder. We maintain a limited clinical practice by design, ensuring that each patient receives the intensive, focused care they deserve. Our expertise extends to providing critical training and consulting services to law enforcement agencies, banks, and community mental health agencies.
We have developed the Annual Resiliency Review program to help administrators proactively ensure the continued good health of their personnel. We believe that a culturally competent assessment of an officer's emotional readiness is a vital, potentially lifesaving, responsibility. Our approach is rooted in helping professionals acknowledge weighty experiences and fortify themselves against workplace stress. We are committed to removing the stigma associated with seeking mental health guidance by making it a normalized part of professional life. We strive to connect individuals with the right resources even when our limited capacity prevents us from taking on a new patient ourselves. Our work is driven by a deep respect for those who serve their communities and their families.

Services
Fitness-for-Duty Evaluations
We conduct specialized psychological evaluations designed to determine an individual's capability to perform their professional duties safely and effectively. This service is critical for agencies needing to ensure that their personnel are psychologically sound and resilient. Our assessments provide administrators with clear, professional insights for managing personnel risk and maintaining departmental safety.
Pre-Employment Evaluations
We provide rigorous psychological screening for candidates seeking careers in law enforcement and other high-stress civil service roles. Our evaluations help identify individuals who possess the emotional stability and psychological fitness required for these demanding positions. This proactive process assists agencies in making informed hiring decisions and building a more resilient workforce from the start.
Clinical Practice for Trauma
We offer a limited clinical practice specializing in Posttraumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) and trauma for law enforcement, firemen, and emergency personnel. We intentionally use the term PTSI to reflect that this is a treatable injury, not a lifelong disorder. If our capacity is full, we make every effort to connect patients with another qualified counselor.
Hypnotherapy
We utilize hypnotherapy as a time-honored clinical procedure to expedite the therapeutic process. This method is often the treatment of choice when more traditional approaches have proven less successful for the patient. It serves as a powerful tool to access and treat the psychological injuries caused by extraordinary environmental experiences.
Annual Resiliency Review
We designed this program to help police administrators ensure the continued health and well-being of their officers. It involves a culturally competent mental health professional assessing an officer's emotional and psychological readiness for the coming year. The review helps reduce stigma, improve morale, and reduce costs related to sick leave, disciplinary actions, and health insurance risk.
