NOTE: As of 6/25/21, I am resuming in-person therapy sessions for those who are fully vaccinated. I will also continue to offer phone or video sessions. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist offering services to individuals in Philadelphia. My pronouns are he/him/his. My work is guided by psychodynamic and relational ideas.
This means I believe the unique relationship we develop is a tool to gain meaning and healing. I focus on the here and now while maintaining a curiosity about how your past and unconscious motivations shape you. I work with most individuals on a long-term basis, but I'm also open to focusing on short-term challenges and solutions. I will listen closely to your needs, and I will share my questions and observations.
I charge $150 per session for individuals and $180 for couples, and I ask for a commitment to one 50-minute session each week. I occasionally have sliding scale spots available. I do not accept insurance but can provide invoices if you would like to seek reimbursement from your insurance for out-of-network care.

I worked with Josh intensively for over a year and found him empathetic and willing to go above and beyond between sessions. However, we developed what turned out to be a very unhealthy relationship for me, where I became extremely overdependent on him, adding to my already dangerous self-destructive moods. After deciding to take a brief break from our intensive work, to my surprise I greatly improved, quickly reaching emotional stability for the first time since I began working with him. When I returned to talk to him a few months after breaking off our therapy, he was not receptive to discussing my concerns about our unhealthy therapeutic dynamic. He was highly emotional and unwilling to analyze what had occurred between us. He then ghosted me for over two months after I reached out to propose a final termination session. When I reached out again after this two-month lapse, he did not achnowledge or apologize for his avoidant behavior and refused to communicate further. He seemed to have a lot of trouble controlling his feelings and acted like I had personally attacked him when I told him that I thought our therapy had not gone well, and that we'd both had huge blind spots about our unhealthy dynamic. Despite my initial high opinion of him, and based on his unprofessional behavior near the end of our work, I would not recommend Josh as a therapist, especially for anyone in an emotionally vulnerable space.
