About
Report
The Maryland Psychiatric Society is a state medical specialty society whose physician members specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illnesses including substance use disorders.
Our objectives are to meet psychiatrists' needs for networking, CME, advocacy, information and more.
This site informs members and the public about our activities and events, and offers news and resources relevant to psychiatry and mental illness.
Members-only areas include an online membership directory and networking opportunities.
Membership
Report
Over 700 Maryland psychiatrists and physicians in psychiatric training already belong to the MPS - what are you waiting for?
The Maryland Psychiatric Society is the only organization in our state actively working exclusively on behalf of psychiatrists to ensure accessible, quality mental health services.
The American Psychiatric Association - with more than 37,000 members in the U.S., Canada, and worldwide - is the voice of psychiatry for your patients and our profession.
All active MPS members are invited to join the MPS listserv - a place where you can quickly and easily share information with other Maryland psychiatrists.
Resources
Report
To locate psychiatrists who have opted in to this database, use the search fields, such as patient types seen, geographic area, insurance participation, languages spoken, etc. MPS members can log in to access the member directory, which includes all active members.
The Physician Data Restriction Program offers all physicians the opportunity to restrict their prescribing information from pharmaceutical sales representatives.
It also allows doctors to register a complaint or concern about a sales rep, or a company's use of their prescribing data.
Advocacy
Report
The Maryland Psychiatric Society (MPS) serves as the voice of psychiatry for Maryland's general public, provider and consumer organizations and the Maryland General Assembly.
Through its advocacy, the MPS educates the public about mental health policy, psychiatry and successful treatment options.
MPS advocacy initiatives below encompass the legislative/regulatory, political, psychiatric practice and communications arenas.
Preserve Telehealth Act of 2021: The new Preserve Telehealth includes several provisions that relate directly to the use of telehealth to satisfy network adequacy requirements and, in our view, guide and set the parameters of the Maryland Insurance Administration's (MIA) regulatory options for the next two years.
Legislation
Report
The MPS Legislative Committee and lobbyists thoroughly screen bills that are introduced through the legislative session and provide feedback on those that are most important to psychiatry.
The MPS Legislative Committee meets frequently during the Maryland General Assembly to review proposed legislation that involves mental health, substance abuse, patient's rights, child abuse, psychiatric practice, insurance, parity and related issues.
This committee liaisons with other MPS committees, the Suburban Maryland Psychiatric Society (SMPS), our lobbyist, MedChi and other consumer and provider organizations.
